Middle Oder Archaeological Museum
The museum building has a fascinating history. Completed in 1602, it was built as a mansion by a member of the Johann Christoph von Kittlitz. In the 18th and 19 Century, the mansion changed owners frequently, moving between the von Diebitsch, von Stentsch, von Prittwitz-Gaffron, von Dyhern and von Knobelsdorf families.
During the conquest of Silesia, on the night from 16 to 17 December 1740, the mansion hosted King Frederick the Great of Prussia.
Today, the museum organises educational activities for children and youth, including, among others, presentations of archaeologists’ work, the earliest history of the region, and the life in prehistoric period and in the Middle Ages.
