In the 1960s, the local water management system was expanded to meet the demand of the rapidly growing State Agricultural Farm in Dąbroszyn. To secure the water supply in the event of a drought, a water storage was built by damming the Witna river and increasing the water table in Lake Wielkie by around 2 m, and building a system of channels and ditches to irrigate the meadows. The structure of the system is clearly visible, starting from the convergence of the channels and slide gates at the road from Witnica to the ferry crossing, and following the Witna river several hundred metres south to the “Witnica” pumping station.
