The first mentions of the school date back to 1808. During World War II, it was seized by the Wehrmacht. Students returned to the school in 1945. From 1980 to 2018, the school was named after the poet Władysław Broniewski. In 2018, it changed the name to honour the Greater Poland insurgents.
