The origins of the village date back to the Neolithic. The first settlers belonged to the Funnelbeaker and Corded Ware culture. There are remains of Neolithic burial mounds in the village. Behind the village, you can see some World War II fortifications. After the war, the village was renamed to Grunhorst.
