The first palace in Brody was built in the years 1670–74 for the Promnitz family. In 1740, the estate was purchased by Count Heinrich von Brühl. Between 1741 and 1753, Johann Christoph Knoffel created a Baroque residential estate there, inspired by the surrounding natural landscape. The 18th Century urban planning scheme includes the palace, the outbuilding, the church, the Zasieki Gate (Brama Zasiecka) and several dozen houses. This unique urban composition has survived to this day. Make sure to visit the palace park where you can observe plenty of rare species of trees and bushes. The garden provided a perfect backdrop for a performance of William Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream” directed by Count von Brühl himself, the news of which piqued interest across Europe.
