Located on the western shore of Lake Łąkie, within two Natura 2000 protection areas: Special Area of Conservation “Jeziora Gościmskie” and Special Protection Area “Puszcza Notecka”, this nature reserve was established in 1959 to preserve the local colony of gray heron. After 20 years, when the last of the herons have disappeared from the area, the scope of protection was changed to include a portion of a natural pine forest with a number of spreading oaks. The reserve is home to birds of prey, in particular black kite and common buzzard. The nature reserve area is under active protection.
