Built in 2006 and funded by the local citizens, the shrine can be found next to the dam impounding water for the hydroelectric power station. It was adapted from a pre-World War II stone monument which had been erected in 1938 by the members of the Reich Labour Service (German: Reichsarbeitsdienst). In 2006, two papal oaks were planted next to the shrine, grown from the seeds of Poland’s oldest oak named Chrobry.
