The Połupin meadows are famous for their beauty which they owe to the fact that they are flood-meadows shaped by the annual flooding by the Oder river. Such environments usually feature very valuable and spectacular habitats. The shallow broads are home to rare species of water and marsh birds. During migration periods (i.e. in the spring and in autumn), the meadows are a stop for hundreds of birds. Due to easy drainage and development, the flood-meadows have all but disappeared from the European landscape. The meadows are also used as pastures for cattle and horses, which add to their charm.
