Palace

Address Biecz, 68-343 Brody Żarskie, Biecz
The complex comprising the palace, two outbuildings, the gate house and the park was created in the 18th Century. The palace was probably built on the site of a Gothic castle and a Renaissance mansion from the 16th Century, with elements of the latter, which had been reconstructed in the 17th Century by Otto Georg von Wiedebach, incorporated into the palace walls. In the second half of the 19th Century, the palace underwent a renovation and some minor stylistical changes, particularly on the façade. The porch and the balcony on the eastern façade were added in that period. On the gable of the western wing, you can see a stone plaque with the crest of the owners of the palace, the von Wiedebach family. The palace survived World War II intact and until 1956 served as the local Community Culture Centre. When the Community Culture Centre moved out, the palace remained unused until 1967 when the Public Library in Zielona Góra converted it into a book warehouse. The palace windows and roof were repaired. In the early 1980s, the palace was purchased by a private investor, but the palace has since been neglected and fallen into ruin.
