The gate was built to celebrate the arrival of King Augustus III of Poland to Brody. Above the gate passage, you can spot the town crest of Brody and below, an inscription in Latin which says: “In the year of our Lord 1753, the gate of the town of Pforten (which was the German name of Brody) was completed”.
