The first information about the church in Modrzew comes from the writing on the portrait of Philippus Redtel who was a pastor in Nosowo and Modrzew from 1611. In 1840 the church became an evangelical filial church of the parish in Nosowo. At that time the church area covered 101 morgens of land. The date of the construction of the first church in Modrzew remains unknown. It could have been erected between the 16th and 17th century. In 1720 there was built a freestanding wooden bell tower by the western gable wall of the new church erected in 1825 as a neo-Gothic stone aisleless building. Currently it is a filial church.
