Monument
According to the plaque, the monument is a “homage to the Polish citizens fallen, killed and exiled from the Eastern Borderlands of the Second Polish Republic in the years 1939 to 1945”. The monument, uncovered on 11 November 2008, consists of five slabs, with the centrepiece inscribed with a quote from the poet Zbigniew Herbert “The loss of memory by a nation is also a loss of its conscience”. Other slabs commemorate the towns destroyed and people killed in the massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia in 1943.
