Suchań is a very old settlement. The first settlers came here in the first half of the 1st Century, probably from Bornholm, and first lived in dugout shelters. In mid-13the Century, Suchań was donated to the Knights Hospitaller who built a commandry of their order there. In the 15th Century, Suchań was granted the town charter and in 1654 was seized by Brandenburg. The town has retained its original spindle-shaped urban arrangement and half-timbered houses. The church shows a combination of styles, starting with Romanesque through Gothic to Baroque. You can also find the remains of the Hospitaller castle.
