The monastery was founded in 1457 beyond the territory of the old Wschowa and it was built by the Bernardines. At the beginning it was of half-timbered construction, but in 1556 it was destroyed in fire set by the Protestants. The Bernardines returned to Wschowa in the 17th century and in 1629 they rebuilt the monastery. In the 18th century it was extended by the St. Cross Chapel and a courtyard with cloisters. In the courtyard there are two chapels and the statue of St. Joseph with Child Jesus.
